Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 11, 2020) – Robbie Price scored a sixth-place finish last Thursday night at Skagit Speedway on the heels of a month-long hiatus from racing designed to re-evaluate his program and get back to having fun.
This was the second consecutive week Price raced at the dirt oval as he posted a runner-up result the previous Thursday. That marked his first top five of the season.
“It’s no secret we had been struggling a bit and we really just needed to step back and regroup,” he said. “We had a great run last week and then to come back this week with another solid finish is a really encouraging feeling.”
Price began the night by qualifying 11th quickest among 17 competitors. He followed that up by winning a heat race from the pole position. Price then rallied forward five positions in the feature to take the checkered flag sixth. The top-10 finish was his fourth of the year.
“I really hurt us in qualifying and it was an up-hill grind the rest of the night,” he said. “The track was really one lane around the bottom and you had to be able to capitalize when the opportunity presented itself. Thankfully, we were able to do that and considering how far we started back, sixth isn’t too bad.”
Next up for Price will be a return to ASCS competition as he tackles ASCS Sprint Week, which features six straight nights of racing in the Midwest. It begins on Tuesday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan. Additional races are Wednesday at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan.; Thursday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan.; Friday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.; and Sunday at Diamond Park Speedway in Nashville, Ark.
With the series utilizing the format of the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, teams will qualify each night. Price believes this is an area where his team can improve and he is excited for the opportunity to further dial in his program early in the night.
“Any time you have time trials it forces you to be fast right off the truck and I think that’s an area where we can get better and hopefully excel,” he said. “It can be tough if luck isn’t in your favor with the pill draw and it’s seemed like we haven’t had much luck at all in that area this year. We’ve got our work cut out for us and it’s going to be quite the grind this week, but steady racing can only make us better and I think this week will do a lot for us as we look toward the rest of the year.”
