Inside Line Promotions – OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 11, 2020) – Danny Sams III is optimistic following a challenging weekend in Iowa.

The Sams LaMountain Racing driver soaked up as many lessons as he could throughout his first time tackling the 30th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank and the Sage Fruit Ultimate Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Co.

“It didn’t go how we wanted it to, but we’ll take that experience and grow from it,” he said.

Preliminary action was Friday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, where Sams III qualified 17th quickest out of nearly 50 drivers.

“We qualified pretty decent for how late we went out,” he said. “Then we lined up for the heat race and the motor starting acting up on us.”

Sams III placed sixth in his heat race and seventh in the B Main.

“We put a new engine in it for Saturday, but something broke on the car going into turn one and we went straight into the wall,” he said. “It tore it up a bit.”

Sams III was unable to make a lap in the C Main as his 360 Knoxville Nationals came to an abrupt end on Saturday. The team used a different car on Sunday at Southern Iowa Speedway for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s Ultimate Challenge.

“It went kind of like Knoxville,” Sams III said. “We didn’t have a good enough heat race to make the qualifier. By the time we got the car figured out we finished a couple of spots out a transfer.”

Sams III placed sixth in both a heat race and a B Main to miss transferring into the main event by only three positions.

Now the focus shifts to ASCS Sprint Week, which features races on Tuesday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.; Wednesday at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan.; Thursday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan.; Friday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.; and Sunday at Diamond Park Speedway in Nashville, Ark.
