Mother Nature Dampens Ironman 55 Finale for the POWRi National Midgets

Belleville, IL. (08/08/2020) Night two of the Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway I-55 with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League would not disappoint in their thirty-lap feature. Rain showers in the vicinity would alter the night’s program with brief precipitation falling right around the time hot laps were set to begin as well as causing a short break after the POWRi Midget League heat races.

Early racing action would witness night one winner #19az Spencer Bayston pick up the event’s top practice time in hot laps with a 12.885 second lap time. From starting fourth to picking up the Auto Meter Heat Race 1 victory, Thomas Meseraull #7x set himself up nicely for the night’s feature event. Starting outside of the front row Tucker Klaasmeyer #21ks won the KSE Racing Products Heat Race 2 with Kaylee Bryson #71k gaining the Advanced Racing Suspension Heat Race 3 victory, earning her second straight heat race win this weekend. Night 2 of the Ironman 55’s PAC Schroeder Torsion Bars High Point Qualifier award went to Clinton Boyles #98, driving from a seventh starting spot to finish runner-up in his heat race earning the pole starting spot for the 30 lap feature event.

Mother Nature has other plans though as rain would again move into the area just after the World of Outlaws completed their 55-lap main event. Unable to salvage the racing surface after the heavy rainfall, officials decided to cancel the feature with payout and points split equally among the 24 drivers slotted to start the feature.

Next up for the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League will be a trip to the Land of Lincoln with the annual running of the Illinois Speedweek. First up on Friday, August 22nd at Mighty Macon Speedway, then on Saturday, August 23rd the POWRi Leagues will travel to Lincoln Speedway, and wrapping up the speed-weekend in style at Jacksonville Speedway on Sunday, August 24th.
