PETERSEN MEDIA: Splitting his time between the Midland Performance No. 50 and his own No. 9x machine over the weekend, Nienhiser would finish second with the Sprint Invaders at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway before pulling the plug on the rest of his weekend early at 34 Raceway.
“Thursday night in the Scott Bonar No. 50 car we were really good,” Nienhiser said. “I struggled to get through traffic, and we ended up second. Friday night in my car, we just struggled to make speed, and we called it an early weekend.”
Kicking his weekend off at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway on Thursday night, the Chapin, IL driver returned to the seat of the Midland Performance No. 50 machine.
Going from the fifth starting position in his heat race to a third-place finish, Nienhiser would make his way into the Dash where he would finish fifth. With lady luck on his side for the inversion draw, Nienhiser would end up taking the green flag from the inside of the second row.
On the slick and wide racing surface, Ninehiser’s machine came to life in the feature as he jumped into second and chased after race leader, Seth Bergman. Keeping Bergman in the cross hairs, traffic would see Nienhiser fall back a little as he would get held up at times.
A late yellow would place Nienhiser back on Bergman’s rear bumper, but Bergman would nail his restart, and Nienhiser would close the night out with a second place finish.
Traveling to 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA on Friday night to battle the All Stars in his PNR No. 9x machine, Nienhiser would simply call it a struggle as he couldn’t make grip in his machine.
After struggles in hot laps time trials, and in the early goings of his heat race, Nienhiser would call it a weekend and head home rather than making the scheduled trip to Huset’s.
“For some reason this new car has been a handful, and really hard to make work,” Nienhiser said. “It really has us all baffled. Typically we could say it’s the driver, but with us being fast in other cars this year, we will put a new car together and try again at the Ironman 55 this weekend.”
Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.
