Inside Line Promotions – ORANGEVILLE, Pa. (Aug. 3, 2020) – Joey Amantea produced a pair of top-five outings in two nights of wingless 600cc micro sprint competition last week.
The action was highlighted by a runner-up result on Saturday at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks after Amantea scored a fourth-place finish last Tuesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa.
“It was a really good week and I can’t really complain,” he said. “Any time you’re in the top five and on the podium, it means you’re running well and that’s all I can ask for.”
Making a rare Tuesday start at Action Track USA, Amantea started off the night by advancing three positions in a heat race to finish third. He lined up from the seventh position in the feature and ran as high as second before fading to fourth at the checkered flag.
“We were fast from the get-go and I think it was the best we have ran at Action Track in a long time,” he said. “I think we chose wrong on the tires, but ultimately it was an improvement and felt good to be in contention against a talented field of cars.”
Following a rainout Friday at Spirit Auto Center Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J., Amantea headed to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks on Saturday. He won a heat race from the pole position to earn the fourth starting spot in the feature. Amantea was tracking down the leader late in the A Main, but ran out of laps and settled for a second-place finish.
“We had some issues in the heat race that we needed to fix, but we got it fixed up and we were pretty good,” he said. “We were challenging for the lead and just ran out of time. It was a good night, but I wish some of these podiums this year would be wins.”
Next up for Amantea will be the four nights of racing as part of the 11th annual Hyper Racing 600 Speedweek. Originally scheduled to be five nights, rain canceled Monday night’s opener at Spirit Auto Center Speedway.
Amantea is scheduled to make stops at Action Track USA on Wednesday; at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks on Thursday; at Path Valley Speedway in Spring Run, Pa., on Friday; and at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, Pa., on Saturday.
With $1,000 on line each night for the winner and riding a wave of confidence following a great start to the season, Amantea is looking forward to the chance to compete for the coveted Speedweek championship.
“We’ve been really good this year and I feel we can be in contention to win every night out,” he said. “We’ve had a really good season and we’re coming in on a bit of a hot streak, so I’m excited to see where we stack up and hopefully we can turn a few heads out there and run well.”
