Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (July 27, 2020) – Joey Amantea captured his second triumph of the season in wingless micro sprint competition Saturday night at Hamlin Speedway.
He followed up the win with a seventh-place finish on Sunday night at Spirit Auto Center Speedway for his 19th top 10 of the 2020 racing season.
“It was a really good weekend and I’m really happy about how good our program has been this year,” he said. “It’s great to say we’re not a one-hit wonder and we can win multiple times during the season.”
Amantea kicked off the weekend at Hamlin Speedway by winning a heat race from the pole position. As a result he earned the pole position for the evening’s feature. With clean air ahead of him and a fast race car under him, Amantea led every lap en route to claiming the checkered flag. It marked the first time in his micro sprint career that he’s recorded multiple wins in a season.
“We were really good from the get-go and the pill draw was in our favor,” he said. “I knew once we got the pole we had a good shot and we were able to go wire to wire with relative ease.”
On Sunday night he headed to Spirit Auto Speedway and for the second time of the week he won his heat race from the pole. A redraw put him in the eighth starting spot for the feature and on a race track that proved tough to pass on, Amantea managed to move forward one position to bring home a seventh-place finish.
“We didn’t tighten the car up enough and misjudged what the track would do,” he said. “We got held up on the start a bit and that cost us a few spots, but ultimately it wasn’t a bad night.”
Next up for Amantea will be a three-race week of wingless micro sprint racing. He will head to Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., on Tuesday night; Spirit Auto Center Speedway on Friday; and Greenwood Valley Action Tracks in Orangeville, Pa., on Saturday.
With Hyper Racing 600 Speedweek on the horizon next week, Amantea is looking forward to getting his program dialed in this week in preparation for the annual event.
“We’re going to bring out a new motor this week and see if we can get ourselves in position to be successful when Speedweek rolls around,” he said. “We always go to the track looking to win, but more than anything this is about making sure we’re squared away for a busy week upcoming. I’m looking forward to racing three nights.”
