Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 21, 2020) – Garet Williamson ran into misfortune last Friday when the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour was in action at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo.

Williamson placed second in his heat race and had one of the fastest cars on the track in the feature. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on his side.

Williamson charged from seventh to third and was making up ground on leaders Sam Hafertepe Jr. and Blake Hahn before a red flag. After the stoppage, the bleeder in a tire stuck and Williamson suffered a flat tire that dropped him to an 18th-place finish.

“It’s super frustrating, but at the same time you got the car there,” he said. “It’s a plus and a minus. You have to take it with a grain of salt that you were there and things like that are going to happen.

“You have to learn from that, clear your head and go do it again. One of the biggest things about racing on the road is that you’ve got to have a clear head. If you are thinking about the last race, you’re never going to be successful. Going into the next race with an open mind is half the battle.”

Williamson took a positive attitude into Saturday’s weekly 360ci sprint car program at Knoxville Raceway. Qualifying was the undoing of the Bryant Paver Motorsports team and buried Williamson for the remainder of the night, which ended in the B Main.

“Qualifying is huge there and it’s one of the biggest things we struggle with because we don’t qualify much,” he said. “It’s a whole different animal in itself. You’ve got to get as many laps there as you can, watch the track and watch other guys qualifying to see what the track looks like when they go out and where they run.”

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour is off until the 360 Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway, which takes place Aug. 6-8. Until then, Williamson plans to visit Knoxville Raceway weekly to turn laps and gain experience for one of the top 360 races in the country.

“We are going there to learn so it’s not like we are chasing points,” he said. “We are going there to learn and get ready for the Nationals.”
