Crockett Garners ASCS National Tour Hard Charger Award at U.S. 36 Raceway

Inside Line Promotions – OSBORN, Mo. (July 20, 2020) – Roger Crockett rebounded from a tough start to the night last Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway.

“I drew the biggest pill they have and the track was really, really wet to start the night,” he said. “It was super greasy in hot laps and the same thing in the heat race. You’re pulling three or four tearoffs a lap. We were quite a bit faster than the cars ahead of us, but there wasn’t an opportunity to pass someone without driving through them.”

Crockett advanced a position to finish fifth in a heat race. That lined him up on the pole of the B Main, which he won to transfer into the back of the main event.

“I about got wiped out and lost a spot,” he said. “Then I spent too long trying to get by that car, probably five or six laps. From there we started moving forward. We got to fifth coming to the white flag, but it didn’t hold and we ended up sixth.

“We were in traffic the entire race and our lap times were good enough to compete. It was all about track position.”

Crockett hustled from 17th to sixth in the feature. It earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“It’s good because we’re starting to do things you have to do to be a championship contender,” he said. “We’ve drawn high frequently this year and have been able to move forward. This is only the second B Main we’ve had to run from not getting through the heat race. Coming from the B Main to sixth in the feature was pretty good.”

Crockett is unsure when and where his next race will be as the ASCS National Tour is sidelined until the 360 Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, Aug. 6-8.
