It was a classic battle between two legends of the Midwest with Terry McCarl and Justin Henderson swapping the lead multiple times in Friday’s main event at Jackson Motorplex. In the end, it was Henderson taking the $3,000 check for the win.
McCarl took the initial lead of the feature event and led the first five circuits before Henderson stormed to the top side of turn three and powered into the lead. It didn’t last long before McCarl made the move in turn two to go back to the point.
The two would accordion with McCarl stretching out to a 1.5 second lead before Henderson would get to his tail tank. McCarl would then stretch his lead with Henderson coming back again.
It was a big run into turn three and momentum off turn four that would propel Henderson, in his family owned #83, to the lead with just two laps to go. He’d go on to the win from there ahead of McCarl.
“It was kind of like a fast rolling game of chess there,” said Henderson in victory lane. “I could not possibly thank everyone enough.”
Lee Grosz moved from eighth to take third with Jack Dover fourth and Derrik Lusk in fifth.
The Property Solutions of America Midwest Sprint Touring Series is back in action Saturday night at I-90 Speedway.
