The second night of the Howard Kaeding Classic in Watsonville, CA went much more smooth then the first night as Andy Gregg tallied a 12th place finish and the inaugural race.
The 30-lap feature got underway with Gregg tip-toeing around the slicked off racing surface as he was marred in heavy traffic.
Gregg got passed Justin Sanders, and Eli Deshaies early as the caution flag slowed the race on the third lap with the 7 Industries/Ervin Sales Group/Eagle sitting in the 10th position.
With action getting back underway, Gregg was in an entertaining battle with Sanders and Brent Kaeding as the trio continually exchanged the 9th-10th-and 11th spots for 13 laps as the race wore on.
The final caution waved on the 16th circuit with the Wheel VIntiques/Autism Awareness/College Cyclery machine sitting in the 10th spot behind BK.
The final 14 laps of the race saw the track begin to take rubber, making track position ever so important.
As cars found the rubber sooner then others, Gregg got shuffled back two spots to the 12th position when the checkered flag flew.
“Tonight was definitely a better night, but this new car still doesn’t feel just right to me yet,” explained the Placerville, CA native. “We’re getting there and I have to thank all my guys for their hard work, but I definitely think we can get this better.”
Andy and his Bret Ervin Racing team would like to thank 7industries.com, Ervin Sales Group, Wheel Vintiques, College Cyclery, The Hot Rod Shop, Autism Awareness, Guts Racing, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Jiffy-Tite, C&R Racing, Eagle Chassis, Meyer Motorsports, Hinchman Racing, and Bell for their support as they follow the 2011 King of the West Series.
