Inside Line Promotions – ORANGEVILLE, Pa. (June 30, 2020) – Joey Amantea piloted his wingless micro sprint at three different Pennsylvania tracks last week.

His best result came Friday at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, where he finished third. He followed that up with a fifth-place outing at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks on Saturday to bring his top-five count to six on the season.

“It wasn’t a bad week, but I think my expectations were to do a little better,” he said. “Considering how well we’ve been running, I was just hoping for some better finishes than what we ultimately got.”

Amantea began his week last Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, where he won a heat race form the pole position. He then started seventh in the feature and was running just inside the top 10 when he slowed to a stop to miss a wreck. That forced Amantea to restart at the rear of the field. On a track that proved tough to pass on he settled for a 17th-place finish.

“The night started off great with getting the pole in the heat race and winning,” he said. “We were okay in the feature, but we just couldn’t get moving forward early. The wreck set us back and from there we just did whatever we could and managed a 17th.”

Amantea headed to Linda’s Speedway on Friday, where he advanced forward one position in a heat race to finish third. The redraw proved favorable as he drew the sixth starting position in the feature. Amantea was battling for second when he made contact with another car and lost handling as a result. He was able to hold onto the third position for the remainder of the race.

“It was a pretty good night, but the track was really one lane and it made it tough to pass cars,” he said. “I think we had at least a second-place car, but overall it wasn’t a bad night and made up for the disappointment of Kutztown.”

Amantea wrapped up the trio of races on Saturday at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks, where he went from fourth to second in a heat race and earned the seventh starting position in the feature. He struggled with the setup on his car in the feature, but was still able to advance two positions to finish fifth.

“I was really disappointed in myself as I think we had the car to win, but I chose the wrong gear for the feature,” he said. “We were not really losing any ground in the feature, but we also were not gaining any. That is definitely one I wish I could get back.”

Next up for Amantea will be a first-ever trip to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., on Wednesday for his second career winged 360ci sprint car start with the United Racing Club as part of the 30th annual Pennsylvania Speedweek. He will follow that up with a pair of starts in wingless micro sprint competition with visits to Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, Pa., on Thursday and Hamlin Speedway in Hamlin, Pa., on Saturday. Amantea will return behind the wheel of the 360 sprint car on Sunday with a trip to Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J., to compete with United Racing Club.

“I’m extremely excited to get out to a track like Port Royal and be surrounded by not only a great field of 360 drivers, but some of the best in the 410 division,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of racing on tap and if we can just learn a few things and continue to grow this weekend will be a success.”
