Inside Line Promotions – QUINCY, Mich. (June 23, 2020) – Danny Sams III earned his first top-five outing of the season last Saturday when he made his debut at Butler Motor Speedway.

Even more impressive is that the Sams LaMountain Racing driver was competing in a 410ci winged sprint car event while driving his 360ci sprint car.

“It was a good confidence boost,” Sams III said. “We were up to pace with the 410s.”

The night began with a wild heat race as Sams III advanced two positions early before he had to overcome a miscue and rebound to gain five more spots.

“We went from fourth to second right away and passed a couple of 410s,” he said. “I bounced off the track because it was really rough. Then I came back from eighth to third in three laps.”

Sams III ranked seventh in points and he narrowly missed the feature inversion, which was the top six drivers. That lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“I drove up to sixth on the first start and then a caution came out, but we did that again on the next attempt,” he said. “I eventually got up to fifth. Me and another driver were going at it for fifth on the last lap when a car spun in front of us. We split the difference and had a drag race to the finish line. I went low and he went high. We were within half a car length, but he barely got us for fourth.”

The fifth-place result provides momentum as Sams III returns to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition this week for the first time since March 8. He will make his debut at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., on Thursday and at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday.

“We’ve been finding more speed in our cars and have been learning more,” he said. “We’re hoping to take this to the ASCS National Tour to run smoother and do better. I want to get in the show right away and contend for top 10s. We feel a lot more comfortable with our cars and I feel more comfortable as a driver. We’re more prepared.

“A special thanks goes to Steve and Karen LaMountain for their continued support. It means a lot.”
