Covington Picks Up a Regional Win at Legit Speedway Park

CG Motorsports- Glenpool, OK (June 18th, 2020) With the National Tour still idle this past weekend, Matt Covington and the team decided to join the ASCS Warrior Region in Missouri. Friday’s event at Lake Ozark resulted in an early exit from the feature after an unfortunate mechanical failure. However, he rebounded on Saturday at Legit Speedway Park by picking up win number 2 of the season aboard his Shark/Triple X chassis mount.

“It ended up being a good weekend for us,” stated Matt. “Lake Ozark didn’t turn out like planned. We were good in the heat and were able to get from 7th to 3rd, which gave us enough points to make the redraw. That started us 7th in the feature. I was able to drive up towards the front, and was working on 3rd, when a mechanical failure sidelined us for the rest of the feature. Not sure if we could have won the race or not, but we had great speed in the car and wanted to see what we could do.”

Covington and team then drove south a few hours to Legit Speedway Park on Saturday for a chance at redemption.

After moving up from 8th to 4th in the heat race, Covington capitalized on the outside pole starting position he gained from the redraw. Taking the lead from Brandon Anderson on the first lap, Covington soon stretched the gap between 2nd place significantly. Unchallenged for the remainder of the race, he stayed out front until the checkers waved, putting him in victory lane.

“That was a fun track to race and great win for us,” Matt commented. “Friday night had me a little frustrated and I wasn’t looking for anything other than a win on Saturday. We haven’t run a ton of races this year due to Covid, but we’ve definitely been fast and need to be on point when the National Tour picks back up next week. I have to say “Thank you” to Mike for all his hard work, and to all of our sponsors and partners that continue to support us and keep us out here, especially with the trying times as of late. We are going to do our best to carry this momentum into the re-start of the National Tour.”

Matt and team will be staying close to home and run an ASCS Sooner Regional show this Saturday at Lawton Speedway, in Lawton, Oklahoma.
