Inside Line Promotions – ORANGEVILLE, Pa. (June 16, 2020) – Joey Amantea recorded a pair of top-10 runs last weekend at two different tracks to raise his season total to 10 top 10s in 13 starts.
The weekend began at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., on Friday for the first time of the 2020 racing season. Amantea rallied from 11th to fifth in a heat race, from second to win a B Main and from 18th to eighth in the wingless micro sprint main event despite bending the left front radius rod after he got into an infield tire. That pushed his streak of consecutive top 10s to nine in a row.
“For our first visit of the year we were really fast, but the track was pretty much one lane most the night,” he said. “We hit the tire there and the car was just tough to hang on to and somehow we managed a top 10.”
Double duty called again on Saturday at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks, where a broken axle during a heat race ended his night early in winged action and snapped the top-10 streak.
However, Amantea was productive in wingless competition. He overcame a bent right front shock to finish second after starting fourth in a heat race. A loose race car hampered him in the feature, but Amantea hung on to a seventh-place result.
“I don’t know that we were as concentrated on the wingless car as much as we should have been and it showed,” he said. “We’re much better than the results showed, but another top 10 isn’t bad.
“It wasn’t a great weekend, but it wasn’t a bad weekend either. We got a couple more top 10s to pad the stat sheet this year and we were competitive each time out.”
Amantea will return to Greenwood Valley Action Track this Saturday to compete in wingless competition only. However, it is his Friday night plans at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., that has him most excited to return to the track this weekend.
Amantea will compete with the United Racing Club in his first career winged 360ci sprint car event driving for the Burke Family.
“This weekend is all about getting experience and just soaking up as much as possible in terms of knowledge about the 360 cars,” Amantea said. “I know it’s going to be a challenge and we’re going to hit a big learning curve, but I’ve been dreaming about this moment my whole life and I can’t wait to get started and see where it takes me.”
