Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 11, 2020) – Trey Starks powered to a top-10 result last Saturday during the first weekly show of the season at Knoxville Raceway.

The reigning 410ci sprint car Rookie of the Year at the track kicked off the action by guiding the Gobrecht Motorsports team to the 12th quickest time in qualifying. A fifth-place result in a heat race lined Starks up on the inside of the eighth row for the main event.

“I had a so-so qualifying lap; it wasn’t great, but wasn’t terrible,” he said. “We didn’t get a good start so we ended up fifth in our heat. We made some good headway at the start of the main event though. The track ended up taking rubber so everybody moved down. I was really happy with how our car was early. I think we got better every time we hit the track.”

Starks’ 10th-place finish was his third top 10 of the season.

He also made a rare start in his family sprint car last Thursday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., during the Thursday Night Thunder opener. Starks timed in 13th quickest in qualifying before he won a heat race to lock into the A Main.

“We had a late pill draw for qualifying and didn’t hit the lap,” he said. “We won the heat, but everything goes back to qualifying for the feature so we had to start midpack. We rode around and picked up a couple of spots toward the end. Nothing went wrong so it was a good night and we’re looking forward to doing it again when we can.”

Starks capped the night with an 11th-place run.

Next up is a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway. The Brownells Big Guns Bash runs Friday and Saturday.

“I think we’ve gained a ton since we raced there with the Outlaws last month,” he said. “We were still figuring out where we were. We’ve made leaps and bounds since then. I want to make the show both nights and if we can put it in the top 10 I’ll be really happy.”
