Inside Line Promotions – NORTH PORT, Fla. (June 11, 2020) – Danny Sams III will make his first sprint car start in more than three months this Friday when he tackles a Great Lakes Super Sprints show.
The Sams LaMountain Racing driver, who is a rookie on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, is heading north for the event at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., to knock the rust off prior to the ASCS National Tour season resuming later this month.
“It’ll help us make sure everything is running smooth since it’s been sitting for so long,” he said. “We’re excited and can’t wait to get back to racing. We learned a lot of new stuff at the beginning of the year so we’ll see if it helps us improve on a track we’re familiar with racing. The goal for me is a top five.”
Sams III has been to the track numerous times in recent years. He’s also familiar with the competition in that region of the country. Sams III finished fourth in the Great Lakes Super Sprints standings after registering only one finish outside the top 10 in 2018.
“We’ve ran quite a few times there with the GLSS,” he said. “I think our best finish was fourth last year. We have a lot of top 10s and a lot of top fives.
“It’s a fast track and you don’t want to lift. It’s about how hard are you going to hang it out on the cushion.”
