By John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (June 9, 2020) - It is still early in the AmeriFlex / OCRS Sprint Car season, but a lot is on the line points wise when racing resumes this weekend with back-to-back events at Humboldt Speedway and 81 Speedway.
After three shows Terry Easum leads the points chase by just 10 points over Casey Wills. Three straight third place finishes was enough to put Easum in the top spot while Wills picked up a victory at Nevada Speedway and logged another top five finish to clinch the runner-up position.
Defending champion Zach Chappell is only seven points behind Wills. Joe Bob Lee of Cache, Oklahoma trails Chappell by nine and Andrew Deal of Caney, Kansas sits in fifth behind Lee.
The scramble for points begins Friday at Humboldt. Chappell won there back on June 14 and will be looking to get back in the winners circle for the first time in 2020.
Saturday marks a return to 81 Speedway for the first time since 2018. Chappell also won that event.
The Park City, Kansas speedway is now under new ownership and has been extensively remodeled since our last visit. FOE Enterprises purchased the speedway from longtime owner C. Ray Hall and three-time NCRA modified champion John Allen has been hired to promoter the facility. New grandstands are installed, remodeled bathrooms and a new concession building has been erected. New fencing and resurfaced walk ways are just some of the changes.
The pit entrance is now located outside of turn one which takes you into an enlarged pit area. You will no longer stop at the front ticket windows to get your pit passes.
