Inside Line Promotions – ORANGEVILLE, Pa. (May 26, 2020) – Joey Amantea captured a ninth-place finish in both wingless and winged 600cc micro sprint car competition last Saturday when he returned to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks for the second consecutive week.
The top-10 finishes were the third and fourth of the season for the Mt. Pocono, Pa., young gun and he was recognized by the track as the Hard Charger Award winner for passing 16 cars in wingless action.
“If I ever can get myself a good starting spot we’ll put it all together and get a win,” he said. “We’ve obviously got the speed and I feel confident in my driving, but we need a little luck to put it all together.”
Amantea powered forward five spots in a wingless heat race from the 10th starting position to finish fifth, which was just shy of transferring to the feature. As a result he lined up from the third position in the B Main. Amantea gained two positions to take the victory despite battling motor woes.
The team got the motor problems fixed in time to start the feature, in which Amantea rolled out from the 25th starting spot. Showing incredible resolve and speed, Amantea passed 16 cars to finish ninth and take home the Hard Charger Award of $50.
“I never want to have to run a B Main, but ultimately without it we don’t discover the motor issues,” he said. “We got things taken care of and the car was just a rocket. We were rolling the top and pulling slide jobs and I was really pleased about the finish.”
In winged micro sprint competition, Amantea started seventh in a heat race and passed three cars to finish fourth. That qualified him for the feature with the 17th starting spot.
Continuing a trend of moving forward all night, Amantea once again was hard at work on the wheel as he passed eight cars to finish ninth. The top 10 made for his fourth at the track during the last two weeks.
“All night we were missing something with the winged car, but we still managed to move forward,” he said. “I don’t know if it was track conditions or what, but we missed the setup a bit to where we just didn’t have a car capable of winning. So to move forward and get another top-10 was a win in itself.”
Amantea will once again return to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks this Saturday for another dose of double duty action. With many tracks still dormant he believes the track currently offers the best competition for him to continue to learn.
“We’d like to get out and do some more racing, but right now Greenwood seems to be the only show in town,” he said. “That means we are facing the best competition each week as everybody else has the same idea.
“One of my goals this year was to be competitive and to be able to hold my own against the best in micro sprint racing. We didn’t plan for it to happen like this, but it’s definitely paying off and my confidence is through the roof.”
