Inside Line Promotions – INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (May 23, 2020) – A trio of drivers became Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division feature winners for the first time on Saturday evening at KC Raceway.
Bradley Fezard, Xavier Doney and Collin Mitchell each recorded their first-ever national triumph with the series to cap the inaugural doubleheader at the bullring on a night that featured more than 100 entrants between the three premier divisions.
Fezard outlasted ninth-starting Doney to capture the 25-lap Stock Non-Wing feature victory, which propelled him into the lead in the championship standings. Bryant Wiedeman rounded out the podium with Colby Sokol finishing fourth and 20th-starting Timothy Watson III fifth.
Fezard, Harley Hollan, Jadyn Friesen, Charlie Allen and Kyle Thompson were the heat race winners in the division that featured 41 entrants. Trevor Peden and Seth Pugh split the B Main victories.
Doney topped a field of 43 entrants to earn the Winged ‘A’ Class triumph. Harley Hollan posted a runner-up result with Skylar Rhoades ending third, Tyler Rennison fourth and 12th-starting Gage Laney fifth.
Thompson, Jade Avedisian, Jason Friesen, Rennison and Blake Battles produced heat race victories. Wiedeman and Jaxon Breeing each won a B Main.
Mitchell bested eighth-starting Garrett Benson for the top spot in the Restricted ‘A’ Class main event. Kayden Cole placed third with Justis Sokol fourth and Trevor Twardeski fifth.
Twardeski, Gunnar Setser, Kayden Cole and Brian Bennett claimed the four heat races that divided the 29 drivers. Brody Brown was victorious in the lone B Main.
Also of note following the event on Saturday, Avedisian remains the points leader in the Restricted ‘A’ Class standings by three points over Benson and she took over the top spot in the Winged ‘A’ Class championship standings.
The Lucas Oil NOW600 Series wraps up this weekend with its first-ever visit to Nevada Speedway in Nevada, Mo., on Sunday. Racing is slated to begin at 7 p.m. (Central).
