After a rainout at the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway on Friday June 10th occured, the Scott Thiel Motorsports crew went hard to work to prepare for a 7 hour haul to Brainerd, Minnesota with the UMSS series. This was the firt race of four that the team will attend with the UMSS. Scotty started inside the third row of the heat race event. At the green, Scotty dove down on the bottom side of the track in turns one and two, and picked up a few positions. Thiel found himself crossing the finish line in the 3rd position. That finish would set Scotty to start outside front row of the 8 lap challenge race. The challenge race is based off of passing points and ultimately sets the starting line up for the A-Main event. At the green, Scotty got a great jump and quickly took the lead. That fell short a few laps in, when the #23 of Cody Hahn got around Thiel on the top side. Scotty jumped up to the top and made that work but fell short of catching the leader.
The invert was drawn at intermission and a 0 was picked which ment Scotty would start on the inside of the second row. Right before the A-Main started, the track crew decided to put water on the dry slick track. The cars took a couple laps to work the track in but it was still pretty wet and greasy on the bottom side. At the green, Scotty got in the greasy portion of the track and spun the tires, causing him to fall back to the 8th spot. Thiel regrouped and started to pick car after car off and found himself in the 5th position and stayed their after crossing the finish line. It was a short A-main event, only 20 laps. Scotty said he felt that if he had a few more laps he could have caught the leaders.
All in all it was a great weekend. The crew was happy with the performance especially since the UMSS uses 360 motors that put out close to 100 or so more Horsepower than the MSA 360 motors. Scott Thiel Motorsports would like to say a special thanks to GRP Motorsports and Nesper Motorsports for the extra help to make the past weekened's trip. It was really appreciated.
