Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (May 18, 2020) – Kerry Madsen garnered the Hard Charger Award last Friday at Jackson Motorplex during the opening night of the Great Lakes Shootout presented by Tweeter Contracting and Harvey’s Five Star Roofing.

The Killer Instinct Crossbows backed driver began the night by guiding the Big Game Motorsports sprint car to the 12th quickest time in its group. That caught the heat race inversion to earn the pole position for a heat race.

“We started on the front row of the heat and got put back a row,” he said. “The outside guy went so I went, but I got a better start so I’m the one who got put back. There’s not much you can do about it after it’s said and done. We got back to second, but needed to win to make the dash.”

Madsen’s runner-up position in the heat race lined him up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event.

“They did prep the track right before the A Main,” he said. “You had to figure out where the grooves were. I got a good start and had a good restart on Lap 3.”

Madsen hustled into 10th place by Lap 5 and he gained two more positions before the checkered flag was waved. The eight positions gained were the most of any driver in the feature.

“It was pretty hard to pass so to get that far up was pretty good,” he said. “It was a positive. With a new crew chief we’re still learning each other and working to piece together the perfect night.”

Saturday’s event finale rained out. Next up is a trip to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., for World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series races this Friday and Saturday.

“I always look forward to going to Pevely,” Madsen said. “Being quick out of the box is key because you realistically need to qualify well. With a lot of cars there it will be important to get a good qualifying time. After that you just chase the race track.”

Madsen captured a World of Outlaws win at the oval in 2014.
