Park Jefferson wrapped up the IMCA Spring Nationals presented by Ricky Lemmen Motorsports with a second night of hammer down excitement. With Mother Nature giving the track a good soaking from 3-5pm, the 135-car field found an ever-changing racetrack as the early portion was heavy and slip sliding but finished smooth as glass which posed problems for a number of drivers and rewarded others.
In the IMCA Modified division it was Anthony Roth who proved his mettle once again to take home another top prize giving him a $2,000 haul back to the Cornhusker State. Front row starters Jesse Skalicky and Daniel Gottschalk got things off to a roaring start sliding and shooting for the lead while Shane Demey joined the fray. Roth then threw a hero or zero slide in turns 3 entering in the 4th position and exiting in first. It was a position he would not relinquish. Demey was second and hard charging Tyler Frye was third. Heats went to Skalicky, Flying Fireman Travis Hatcher, Jordy Nelson, and Sean Barragan.
The Stevenson Hardware IMCA RACESaver Sprint Cars saw a stout field take the green boasting former track champions from multiple tracks. It was Park Jeffs former rookie of the year Elliot Amdahl who showed everyone his local knowledge to roar around the top side of the Union County oval, slicing and dicing in traffic like he was training for a career with the Outlaws. Cody Ledger hammered the 47 machine up down and around lapped traffic to come in second and defending track champion Colin Smith came from tenth to finish third. Heats went to Jesse Lindberg, Stu Snyder, Trevor Serbus and Jared Jansen. Daniel Nekolite won the B Main.
The J&J Fitting Stock Cars was a battle royal of epic proportion, with rookie Justin Luinenburg holding off a stout field. Luinenburg got the jump after a caution to take over the top spot. Meanwhile Chanse Hollatz and Tavis Barker staged a furious battle fighting for the high line just inches apart lap after lap. Barker passed young Hollatz with Iowa superstar Elijah Zevenbergen in tow. Luinenburg proved his mettle and held them both off. Dan Mackenthun came from 20th to finish seventh. Heats went to Dean Cornelius, Eric Bartels, Austin Brauner and Paul Wenzlaff while Brenton Palmer got the B Main.
The IMCA Sport Modifieds saw a barnburner with a massive rollover mid race changing the entire complexion. Beresford’s Keegan Nordquist was the early class of the field controlling the entire program. Meanwhile Jake Sachau came from row 2 to challenge for the lead. Sachau went low in turn 3 and hit the standing water at the bottom of the turn, resulting in a massive push up the track causing a massive barrel roll which saw the 10N destroyed. Shawn Harker, who was runner up the previous night picked up the checkers with Rusty Montagne second and Waseca, Minnesota’s Jared Boumeester third. Heats went to Brian Osantowski, Nordquist, Boumeester and Kamren Gruber.
The IMCA Hobby Stocks dialed back the aggression on night 2 after a wild and wooly night 1. It was local legend Craig Clift getting the jump on the field and controlling the program. Meanwhile Jason Wilkinson and Jason Fusselman came from mid-pack to position themselves for a torrid battle. Both took down Clift and then raced away wheel Wilkinson held off Fusselman by nine one-hundredths of a second to take the win. Clift finished third. Heats went to Tyler Popspisil, Wilkinson, Jeff Ware and Kevin Bruck.
The Tri State Late Models come next Saturday for their only appearance of the season along with IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Hobby Stocks. The RACESaver Sprint cars are also on tap. For tickets or driver registration go to www.parkjeff.com
