Hirst Handles Wild Winged Wednesday

Petersen Media- Wednesday in Placerville, CA the California Civil War Series welcomed 35 sprint cars to their annual mid week event known as Wild Winged Wednesday and it was Sacramento, CA native Kyle Hirst picking up the hard fought win.

With un characteristic wet weather pounding northern California as of late, gorgeous blue skies and warm temperatures greeted a jam packed house at the racy ¼ mile track as they were treated so a wild night of racing that saw spins, flips, and hard racing.

In the 30-lap feature event it was Hirst and Bret Miller leading the field of 22 to the green flag. As the race got under way it was Miller grabbing the early advantage and led the first lap, but Hirst fought back and grabbed the lead in turns three and four on the second lap before an early caution slowed the race.

When the race got back underway, the red flag flew immediately for James Sweeney as he was victim of a flip in turns one and two.

Hirst continued to lead Miller, Mason Moore, Steven TIner, John Bunch, and Jimmy Trulli as the race continued for two more laps before the red flag stopped the race again this time for a flipping Trulli and Bunch out of the fourth turn.

The next seven laps went caution free as the leaders got into traffic. Miller insistently put pressure on Hirst’s machine as they weaved through traffic as Moore, and Tiner entered the battle.

A caution waved on the 11th lap giving the leaders a clear track with 19 laps remaining.

As Hirst brought the field back to green on what was the final restart, he continued to master the track as he quickly distanced himself from the second running Miller.

Back in the field, Herman Klein was making a charge as he disposed of Tiner and Mason Moore to climb into the third spot from his eighth starting spot on the 15th circuit.

Hirst was working through traffic brilliantly as Miller and Klein continued to chase him down through traffic. Deep in the field Mike Henry worked his way into the eighth spot from his 20th starting spot, and Andy Forsberg had worked his way up to ninth after falling to 22nd on the first lap.

As the checkers waved on the event it was Hirst picking up the big Wednesday night win followed by Moore, Klein, Moore, Tiner, Colby Wiesz, Jeremy Burt, Henry, Forsberg, and Geoff Ensign rounding out the top ten.
“Ive really got to thank all my guys for a great car tonight,” said an excited Hirst. “This Wednesday race is always fun, and I’m just glad I was able to get this 14s back in victory lane again.”

The rest of the finish consisted of Chase Johnson, Cody Lamar, Alissa Geving, CJ Humphreys, Robbie Whitchurch, Jeff Parady, Charlie Cagle, Billy Strange, Jr, N.Miller, Bunch, Trulli, and Sweeney.

The B main went to Sweeney with heat race wins going to Hirst, Parady, Strange, and B. Miller, and Herman Klein set the fastest time of the night during qualifications.
