Ian Madsen 4th on Saturday at Open Wheel Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking advantage of an opportunity to race, Ian Madsen and KCP Racing made the trip to Park Jefferson Speedway in South Dakota on Saturday night and came away with a fourth-place finish during the Open Wheel Nationals.

“The guys gave me a really good car all night, and I thought we were plenty good enough to battel for the win,” Madsen said. “Unfortunately, a slower car was trying to exit the track in front of us and it forced us off the racing surface and we fell back to 12th.”

With the allotted 32 cars all checking in for action on Saturday, Madsen kicked his night off by timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in fifth quickest.

Finishing fifth in his heat race, the St. Marys, NSW pilot made the transfer into the 25 lap feature event where he would roll off the starting grid from the sixth position.

Following a caution negating the opening start, the skies would open up and a quick rain shower would delay the show as cars were summoned to the infield as crews were able to tend to their drivers during the delay.

Back underway a lightning fast surface saw Madsen hang inside the Top-five until the leaders got into traffic. Able to keep pace inside the lead pack, Madsen would be forced to take drastic measures as he went off the racing surface to avoid a car exiting the racing surface. Falling back to 12th, he would have his work cut out for himself.

Slicing and dicing his way back forward, Madsen would get back into the Top-Five late in the race, and would benefit from a car running out of fuel in the closing laps as he would take the fourth position, where he would go on to finish.

“It was great to get back to racing, and get to a track,” Ian Madsen said. “Really happy with how we went after having a couple months off, and we are all hopeful we can get back to a track sooner than later. I’d like to extend a huge thanks to all of our partners who continue to stick with us while we all wait this out.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, , Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Cox Design and Fabrication, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
