“The Phenom” Alex Bright will take his talents to the Rapid Tire, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series along with prominent micro sprint owner Bob Hummer. Hummer and Bright first teamed together last season and found success, taking home a number of wins at area speedways. Coupled with solid runs on the east coast and in the mid-west in 600cc micro sprint competition. The biggest win possibly coming at the Tulsa shootout this past December where they collected the Stock Non-Wing A main win taking home a coveted Golden Driller. The team also grabbed the non-winged portion of the Micro Sprint showdown event at the Millbridge Speedway in North Carolina.

If things are to go to plan for this season Bright and Hummer will be running the entire USAC East Coast Sprint Car series, along with Micro sprint events with Alex and his brother Brenden Bright behind the wheel of the Rodota Trucking and Excavating, Drive WFX machines. Along with Alex and Brenden, Hummer hopes to have his son Chris run some micro sprint events. Look for Indiana micro hot-shoe Emerson Axsom, Nash Ely, and Jim Radney to also make starts in Hummer Micros this season.

When I was able to talk with Mr. Hummer about why he chose the USAC East Coast Series he had the following to say: “I have always thought Sprint Cars were badass and always wanted one. I like the looks of a winged car but I like wingless racing better and its more exciting in my opinion. Your series had a variation of tracks and the schedule looked decent.” Hummer went on to mention that they do have a winged car and will be making a decision on whether or not it will be a 360 or a 410 in the coming weeks.

Bright is no stranger to wingless racing as he has amassed a number of feature wins with the ARDC and at time USAC Eastern Midgets, along with making Chili Bowl A Main starts, USAC National Midget, and Powri Midget starts in both his self owned cars and for prominent car owners. Alex and his prowess in wingless cars was another factor that played into the teams decision to go wingless racing in 2020.

Bright has also branched out into the sprint car ranks over the last few seasons which has included running for the Rick Kaylor in the USAC Eastern Storm, along with some wingless super sportsman, and 305 sprint car starts.

Alex had quite the busy winter months as he made multiple trips to Australia to drive for the Graham Jones Midget team, and even hopped into a wingless 6 cylinder sprint car at the Perth Motorplex and collected a $10,000 victory against a huge field of regular competitors.

The versatile driver will add to the ever growing expansion and depth of the field in the Rapid Tire, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series and joins the likes of fellow drivers with similar backgrounds such as defending champion Steven Drevicki, Tim Buckwalter, and Bruce Buckwalter Jr, and Andrew Layser who have all competed through the micro sprint, midget and now sprint car ranks.
