Atlanta, GA - May 31, 2009 - After four of the six races scheduled were contested, Defending Parts Plus USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee was declared the Champion of the USCS Parts Plus Sprint Speedweek 2009 mini-series. Gray put together a week long effort of top five finishes and accumulated the most points during the four events. Gray's consistent efforts included a fourth place finish at North Alabama Speedway on May 24th, a third place finish at the famed I-30 Speedway on May 28th, a third place finish at Drew County Speedway on May 29th and another third place finish in the finale at Greenville Speedway on May 30th. Races at Riverside International Speedway on May 23rd and at Clayhill Motorsports on May 25th were unfortunately rained out.
Nesbit, Mississippi young gun, Lee Sowell finished in the runner-up spot in the Speedweek 2009 standings with 344 points. Sowell had one top five finish at North Alabama and top ten finishes at I-30, Drew County and Greenville Speedways to garner the high ranking. Tommy Worley, Jr. from Farmington, Missouri drove Doc Sloan's #97 sprinter to third place in the week long mini-series standings with 342 points just two behind Sowell.
Raymond Stull from Independence, Mississippi finished the Speedweek standings just six points behind Worley in fourth place. The 2008 Parts Plus USCS Rookie of the Year, Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee
rounded out the top five drivers in the fourth annual event with 334 points. Nicholson became one of four different winners over four races when he won Round Two (actually the opener) at North Alabama Speedway on Sunday night.
2008 Speedweek Co-Champion, Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas finished sixth this year with 306 points and Wade Oliver followed in seventh oposition with 304 points. Thursday night's winner at I-30 Speedway, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas finished eighth in the standings with 296 points. Crawley was the other 2008 Speedweek Co-Champion.
Rookie standout Jon Stinson from Memphis, Tennessee was four points behind Crawley in ninth place with 294 points. Henry Gustavus from Marion, Arkansas rounded out the top ten drivers in the standings with 292 points.
Other Speedweek feature winners included Paul McMahan from Hendersonville, Tennessee won the Friday May 29th Round Five race at Drew County Speedway in Monticello, Arkansas. Shane Stewart from Bixby, Oklahoma won the Saturday, May 30th Speedweek 2009 Finale at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Mississippi.
Jon Stinson was declared the Speedweek "Rookie of the Week" for his solid efforts that included accumulating the most points of any rookie driver during the mini-series. Eight rookies competed during the week. Fourty-six drivers from eight states entered the competition. There was an average of twenty-nine cars that competed at each event.
