ELK GROVE, CA – In recent weeks if Elk Grove’s Billy Strange didn’t have his share of bad luck he may not have any luck at all. After a week off from action, the second generation open wheel racer is looking for a strong restart to his 2011 “California Outlaw” style schedule as he returns to the track he still calls home, Placerville Speedway.
“We’ve had our share of hard luck lately that’s for sure,” said Strange. “Nothing too major but it’s just been frustrating that we can’t seem to get dialed in like we once were. I’m looking forward to the upcoming race at Placerville. I have a lot experience there and maybe this is where we can turn things around a bit.”
Strange will be competing in the Hoosier Tires Civil War event next Wednesday night, June 8. The event is a make up race from a previously rained out Placerville event and is bannered as “Wild Winged Wednesday.” Some 30 or more cars are expected for the mid week event and when the final checkered flag waves, Strange hopes to be running among the top ten or better.
“A top ten in this race would be great,” said Strange. “Both Placerville and the Civil War have a lot of tough drivers so to do well would really mean a lot to my whole team. We’ll give it all we’ve got that’s for sure.”
Before taking last weekend off, Strange made a detour off of the King of the West Sprint Car Series and returned to Placerville Speedway for a weekly point race visit. During the event he was faced with the adversity of an ill handling car for much of the night.
“We just couldn’t get it right no matter what we tried,” said Strange. “It seemed like everything we had learned about Placerville had changed a little bit. It wasn’t a good night for us.”
In qualifying, Strange timed in with the 13th fastest lap of the night. In the eight lap heat race he missed the transfer by a single position, finishing fifth which forced him into the grueling B feature. In the 12 lap last chance effort to reach the A main, Strange finished in 7th to end his night three spots short of a potential transfer.
Currently, Strange is running a “California Outlaw” schedule. His primary forcus for the early part of the year has been the KWS Series. After taking a detour off the tour prior to Santa Maria and racing at Placerville, Strange is currently 17th in the overall point standings of the series.
Strange is always looking for additional marketing partners for the 2011 racing season.. Among their current supporters are America's Tire Kevin Sharrah Designs, ART Enterprises, Swepco Lubricants, Pronol Race Fuels, High Country Painting and Amerikote.
