Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 1) – Four days, four tracks, three states and one good run.
“The first three nights didn’t go very well,” said Logan Forler, who capped last weekend with his third consecutive top-five finish at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D.
“Huset’s was the highlight of the weekend. That was a good night.”
The 17-year-old from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., rocketed from fifth place to claim his heat race, which made him the high-point driver heading into the feature. Unfortunately for Forler, the top eight were inverted, so he started on the outside of the fourth row.
“I had the throttle sticking pretty bad in the feature,” he said. “I just dealt with what I had and ended up fifth.
“I need to figure out how to run the cushion the right way there. That place is really hard to run the cushion. I figured it out pretty good the other night, but I haven’t mastered it yet. I think once you master the cushion around that place, you’re gonna be pretty good.”
His fourth top-five finish followed a tough night at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where Forler placed 15th on a difficult track.
“The track was rough and heavy,” he said. “Big tracks that are rough and heavy aren’t really my cup of tea. I was just no good.”
Prior to that were a pair of nights in Nebraska with the ASCS Midwest Region.
On Thursday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Forler was forced to run in the B Main after struggling in the heat race. He finished fourth and started 20th in the feature, which he placed 16th in on the wide, 3/8th-mile oval.
“That place is just tough to pass on it,” he said. “It’s really fast and high banked. If you don’t start up front, you’re usually not going to end up in the front.”
On Friday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Forler drew the highest number for his heat race. He drove from last – eighth – to sixth, which forced him into a B Main for the second straight night. However, the fast track was down to one groove on the bottom and Forler missed a transfer by one spot.
He is set to return to the ASCS National Tour on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. Forler ranks 11th in ASCS National points and is second in the Rookie of the Year chase.
He is also planning on hauling to Huset’s Speedway, where he ranks second in the 410 standings, for Sunday’s event.
