PETERSEN MEDIA-After being cancelled on Saturday night due to Mother Nature’s late May shower, Sunday’s feature got cut short for Andy Gregg after a lap five crash put his Bret Ervin Racing Entry in the pits for the night at the historic Calistoga Speedway, in Calistoga California.
As the feature event took three attempts to finally get going, the 7 Industries/Hot Rod Shop/Eagle was working it’s way forward from the 13th starting spot.
After getting around Bobby McMahan to crack the top ten, Gregg began charging towards Willie Croft for the ninth spot.
Disaster struck on the fifth lap as a parts failure down the backstretch sent Gregg hard into the turn three wall causing severe damage to his Bret Ervin owned mount, and Gregg’s night was finished.
“Any time you crash is never fun, but especially at a high speed place like this,” said Gregg. “I’m happy I’m okay and lucky I have a great group of sponsors that will make sure were out racing for the next KWS show.”
Gregg timed in with the 13th quickest lap of the 28 cars assembled and finished third in the first heat race.
