In May of the 2019 season, Tim Buckwalter was named driver of the Bill Gallagher owned 5g entry for competition on the Rapid Tire, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series trail. The team found immediate success in their first weekend with a strong run at Big Diamond, and a win at the Grandview Speedway.
The combo was able to grab five top-five finishes in seven starts on the tour in 2019, including victories at the Grandview Speedway in May, and the Big Diamond Speedway in June. Along with two third place efforts. An unfortunate violent flip on lap one of the feature at the Georgetown Speedway in July, left the team with no remaining cars to finish out the 2019 season.
The duo along with head mechanic Curt Michael, will attack the full Rapid Tire, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series in 2020. Curt Michael had the following to say about Tim and the team sticking together: “Were all happy to continue to race with Tim. We get along well as do all of our crew guys and families. Tim did a great job when we ran and we had some wins and good runs. We had one big crash at Georgetown and we had a fast car that night too, but those kind of things are going to happen when you run hard.”
But the team won’t just run with the USAC East Coast Series. Being that Tim is a former USAC National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year, and with the recent acquisition of a Rider 410 engine, the team will run the Eastern Storm with the USAC National Series in June, along with making the trip out to the Kokomo Speedway in late August for the Kokomo Smackdown. “Were looking forward to running all of the Rapid Tire, USAC east Coast Series Races, along with the Eastern Storm and a trip to the Kokomo Speedway” Said Curt Michael. “Tim has done Eastern Storm and Kokomo before, but it will be new to our team and myself, hopefully we can have some good runs with our Rider 410.”
The combo will look to have an even better 2020 season on tour with the USAC East Coast Series, along with their other events scheduled with the National Tour, along with Tim's busy schedule in micros, speedstrs and modifieds.
