WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (May 14, 2011) – Salinas’ Ronnie Day will lead the Ocean Sprints back to the central valley for their only event at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford on Saturday night. Saturday night’s show will see Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo squaring off with the ASCS SoCal division.
2010 Ocean Sprints champion Tommy Tarlton of Easton leads the points for the ASCS SoCal division with victories at Hanford and in the Ocean Sprints / ASCS co-sanctioned race at Tulare in April. Tarlton drove from 14th to fourth in last Friday’s Ocean Sprints feature to close within 12 points in the Taco Bravo series.
Day is winless in the Ocean Sprints through the first four rounds but has been a consistent front-runner with two runner-up finishes and two fourth place runs.
Prunedale’s Justin Sanders has shown the most pure speed this season in the Ocean Sprints but a pair of accidents at Ocean Speedway and a flat tire while leading Tulare has dropped him to fifth in the standings. Sanders will look to redeem himself this weekend.
St. Helena’s Rico Abreu has been one of the top stories of the early season, as the Winged 360 rookie is third in the Ocean Sprints points and just 24 points behind Day.
Other cars in the top-ten of the Ocean Sprints standings expected at Hanford include Tommy Laliberate, Steve Osborne, and “Cowboy” Craig Smith.
USAC West Coast 360’s and Modifieds will also be in action on Saturday night, with the power-packed triple header just $15 for adult tickets. Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway is located on the Kings County Fairgrounds and is online at www.kingsspeedway.net
