Skinner Enjoys Solid Year Despite Abbreviated Racing Schedule

Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Nov. 27, 2019) – Marshall Skinner enjoyed success on the track this year despite racing much less than usual due to work commitments and weather.

“It wasn’t my best year, but I did okay; I just didn’t race a lot,” said Skinner, who competed in 22 events this season compared to his usual schedule of approximately 35 races a year. “We had some good runs. I struggled a little bit at times, but I think that was due to me not racing enough to keep on top of what I needed to be doing.

“We were extremely busy at work this year. That kept me from some races. I also missed about the first five or six races of the year because I didn’t have my car ready because I had been so busy at work. We also lost a lot of races to rain – more than usual.”

While running an abbreviated schedule made it difficult for Skinner to get in a groove, he still posted solid results with seven top-five finishes and 14 top 10s out of the 22 events. There were some memorable moments as well.

“One of my favorite races of the year was the second USCS Speedweek show at Riverside when Jeff Swindell and I battled back and forth for the lead in the feature,” he said. “That was a lot of fun. The only bad thing about it was that I finished second.

“I also had a good run early in the year at Jackson. I struggled in the heat race. I started near the back of the feature and was able to work my way up to third. That was fun, too.”

Skinner showed speed at several of the closest tracks to his shop, although misfortune often caused disappointing finishes.

“We had quite a few good nights at Riverside, but it really didn’t show in the results,” he said. “I got spun out a couple of times there when I was running well – stupid stuff like that. I would’ve made the show at Short Track Nationals this year, but a guy spun me out. And I was disappointed with the way I ran at Talladega this year. I usually do well there, but for some reason I struggled this year.”

Skinner is eager to return to the track next season when he reaches a milestone in his racing career.

“I’m really looking forward to racing next year,” he said. “It will be my 30th year of racing. I don’t have as much work to do to the car this offseason as I did last year so I should be ready when the season starts. Hopefully that and some drier weather will help us to get more races in next year. I think if I can race more I’ll be more consistent and have better results.”
