Inside Line Promotions – NEW CASTLE, Del. (Nov. 6, 2019) – Last week Joey Amantea thought his season was over.

Coming off an impressive showing at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., two weeks ago, Amantea had his mind focused on 2020 and was gearing up for a busy offseason. However, Amantea switched gears and got behind the wheel for one more race in 2019 last Saturday when he picked up a 15th-place finish in his first visit to Airport Speedway.

“We didn’t really know if we were going until Thursday, but it ended up being a really good weekend,” he said. “The track was really cool. It was super fast with slide jobs and we’ll definitely be returning in 2020.”

Amantea began the night by timing in seventh quickest out of 43 competitors. He drew the first starting position in a heat race. Amantea got caught up in an opening turn wreck and fell to the rear, but drove back through the field to finish second. As a result he qualified for the feature redraw and captured the ninth starting spot.

“It seems to be my style to get caught up in wrecks in the heat race,” Amantea joked. “But the car was really good and we managed to make the redraw, which showed we had speed.”

Amantea quickly moved through the field in the A Main, advancing as high as sixth before getting tangled up in a wreck and falling to the rear. He worked his way back through the field and was running fifth when he once again got caught up in an accident.

Once again coming from the rear, Amantea showed incredible resolve as he picked his way through the field to reach as high as seventh before again finding himself in trouble. As a result, his car obtained damage to the radius rod. He tried to nurse the car home to finish the race, but pulled off early and was credited with a 15th-place finish.

“With as much passing as we did and the speed we had, I honestly had a car capable of winning the race,” he said. “But eventually the car had taken too much of a beating and we took what we could get and got credited with a solid top 15.”
