Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 23, 2019) – Jordon Mallett highlighted two nights of action at Devil’s Bowl Speedway with a ninth-place finish in Saturday night’s 46th annual Winter Nationals finale.

“It was a bit of an up-and-down weekend, but we’ll take it,” he said. “We made a bit of a mistake on Friday night and we went off an old setup, but overall it was a decent weekend.”

Mallett kicked off Friday night’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour preliminary event by finishing where he started – third – in a heat race. That locked him into the 11th starting position for the main event.

Unfortunately, Mallett struggled with the setup and dropped to the rear of the field quickly. During an open red, his crew drastically changed the setup on the car and the changes made the car a lot better. He was able to rally forward and finish in the 13th position. The top-15 result was the 25th of the season for the Greenbrier, Ark., native.

“We fell all the way back to the tail end of the field and we were extremely off in terms of the setup,” he said. “Luckily we got that open red and we literally changed everything on the car. We clawed back for a top 15 and I wish we were better early. To be able to change like that and see it was the right call, it shows we are learning out here.”

Mallett once again locked himself directly to the A Main on Saturday after finishing in the runner-up position in a heat race. Mallett then placed ninth in the feature on a tricky track.

“The track was wet and heavy all night and we were just too snug early on,” he said. “We didn’t turn our best lap until the tail end of the night and it was just a tough track to pass on. To come home with a top 10 was a blessing.”

With only two remaining races on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour schedule, Mallett trails eighth place in the series standings by 56 markers, but is now only 66 points out of seventh.

He will take this weekend off and is looking to finish out the 2019 season strong when the series visits Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 during the Tony Stewart presents the VANKOR Texas Sprint Car Nationals.

“The pressure is off going into the series finale as we are pretty secure in our spot points-wise,” he said. “It’s a new race track for us so we’ll go in and hope for some beginners luck and maybe gain a spot or two in the standings.”
