Inside Line Promotions – NEWMANSTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 3, 2019) – Joey Amantea held on to a damaged race car to come home ninth last Friday night at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa.

It was the only official event of the weekend as rain cancelled his Saturday night plans at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway after showers invaded the track following heat races.

Amantea started the weekend off at Linda’s Speedway, where he started fifth in a heat race and lost one position to finish sixth. As a result of the finish, he didn’t qualify for the feature redraw and started 12th in the main event.

Amantea was hit with bad luck on the opening circuit when he hopped over a tire of a fellow competitor and bent his front axle, bringing out the caution. He restarted 14th and worked himself up to the eighth spot before he once again made contact with a car and bent the other side of his front axle as well as the right front wheel.

He nursed the car for the remaining laps and salvaged a ninth-place finish. The top 10 was his 33rd of the season and was good enough to place him third in the season’s championship standings at the track.

“It was everything I could do just to hold onto the car after all the damage in the feature,” he said. “It was a horrible night at the track, but still a good points night. We finished the season third in points still so I’m proud of that accomplishment.”

Next up was a trip to Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, where he started fourth in heat race action and lost two positions to finish sixth. Amantea was scheduled to start seventh in a qualifier before rain arrived, cancelling the remainder of the night.

“It stinks not getting to race due to rain, but we didn’t have speed in the heat race and it was shaping up to be a long night,” he said. “Maybe it was a blessing to be able to go home and regroup for this coming weekend.”

Amantea will race this Friday through Sunday at the Spirit Auto Center Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J., during the 3rd annual Skyscraper race. The event is highlighted by a $4,000-to-win finale on Sunday and various contingency prizes.

Friday night’s race will be an invitational event and the winner of the feature will secure the seventh-place starting spot in Sunday night’s finale. While Amantea has limited experience at the track, he’s hoping for a good showing against an expected huge field of cars.

“Every time we have ever ran there we have put it in the show so I expect to do pretty well,” he said. “Ideally I’d like to win that race Friday night and get locked in for Sunday. But we’ll do our best and I feel confident about our chances all weekend.”
