Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (May 9) – He’s not headed to a race track, but at this point, Austen Wheatley is excited for the road trip.
The 18-year-old from Lake Stevens, Wash., will spend this week picking up two new Wolfweld sprint car chassis from Sioux Falls, S.D.
“At least it’s something racing-wise,” Wheatley said. “Sitting around the house gets boring.”
Because of multiple engine issues, Wheatley has only raced once since April 2. With an engine on its way and the two new chassis, Wheatley said the team should return to the track in the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime, Wheatley has been working on the durability of his race program and he said that is only stabilized with the Wolfweld chassis.
“I’ve never raced in any other chassis in my sprint car career,” he said. “Doug Wolfgang is a great welder. Wolfweld chassis are one of the best pieces you’ll ever find welding-wise. In a crash they hold up really well.”
Wheatley hopes to avoid crashes for awhile and get back in the routine of racing every weekend as soon as possible. But for now, he’ll settle for a road trip.
