Inside Line Promotions – CALEDONIA, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2019) – Joey Amantea moved one step closer to achieving a personal goal of a top three finish in the championship standings at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., when he picked up a sixth-place result last Friday night during non-wing micro sprint competition.
He also visited a new track in Limerock Speedway on Saturday, scoring an 11th-place finish.
“We’ve had a bit of an up and down season at Linda’s, but it was a really good points night heading into the last points race there next week,” he said. “I also got to see a new track and I think that can only make me better as I chase that top-three goal.”
Amantea started the weekend off at Linda’s Speedway, where he started sixth in a heat race and advanced one position to finish fifth. He drew the 12th starting position for the feature and passed six cars to score his 34th top-10 finish of 2019. The result solidified him in the third position in season standings at the track and got him closer to achieving that personal goal.
“The heat race was one of the craziest heat races I’ve ever been a part of and the car felt good heading into the feature,” he said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t draw a very good number and had to start 12th, but I was able to move forward and it was a very good night.”
Next up was a trip to Limerock Speedway for the first time ever. Amantea started seventh in a heat race and advanced three spots to finish fourth. He then finished where he started – fourth – in a qualifier. That earned him the 13th starting spot for the feature.
In feature action, Amantea moved through the field and was sitting as high as eighth before he got caught up in a multi-car pileup. The damage caused a broken w-link to his car, but Amantea nursed the car home to an 11th-place finish.
“The track was really flat and I was having trouble keeping the front of the car down in the heat,” he said. “Come feature-time the car was really fast and if not for the wreck, I think we had a top-five car. So I’m happy we could finish the race and gain some experience.”
This Friday will be a trip to Linda’s Speedway for the final points race of the season before a visit to Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, Pa., on Saturday night.
