TANKERSLEY REJUVINATED DURING OFF WEEKEND

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (May 9) – It wasn’t quite a relaxing off weekend for Channin Tankersley.

However, it was filled with more than enough excitement as the 20-year-old from Highlands, Texas, flew to Las Vegas to watch the Supercross season finale last Saturday.

“It was awesome to get away for a weekend and watch some dirt bike racing in person,” Tankersley said. “Those guys are pretty brave and the show they put on is amazing.”

Tankersley, who began his racing career on dirt bikes as a 5-year-old, is scheduled to climb back into the seat of his sprint car this weekend in a pair of ASCS Gulf South Region races in Texas.

With the difficult season that he’s already endured, Tankersley is excited that the doubleheader is at a pair of tracks where he’s found success. On Friday, he’ll compete at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, where he finished third in his last race at the ¼th-mile, high-banked track.

“I’ve had a car capable of winning there twice this season,” Tankersley said. “I got a top three in my last visit and then a mechanical issue ended a top-five run in my season opener at GTRP. So I’m excited to get back there and see if I can pick up my first win of the season.”

He will then make his first appearance in the past two years at Texana Raceway Park in Edna on Saturday. In 2009, he scored fifth- and sixth-place finishes and in 2008 he was a runner-up at the 5/16th-mile, high-banked dirt oval.

“I’ve ran good at Texana Raceway Park as well,” he said. “I haven’t been there in a couple of years, but I’m ready to see if I can pull off another top five. At this point, I really need to start reeling off some top fives and start building momentum.”

Tankersley ranks 10th in the ASCS Gulf South standings.
