Walter, Torque Racing go top-15 with IRA, prep for season finale

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 18, 2019 – Following a weekend away from the racetrack, Josh Walter and the Torque Racing team returned to action by turning in yet another rock solid effort with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series for the Scott Semmelmann Memorial Race at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Walter began the evening by qualifying 16th in the 26-car IRA field with a lap of 12.242 seconds. The 14th-year driver then lined up sixth and finished fifth in the first 10-lap IRA heat race to advance to the 30-lap A main.

The Plymouth resident rolled off from the 12th starting spot in the main event before coming home 13th in a race won by Bill Balog.

“It was consistent night for us,” Walter said. “We were struggling with turn 3 and 4 all night, but had a really good car for turns 1 and 2. Early in the night, we struggled a bit with forward drive off the corners in qualifying and the heat race. By the time the A main rolled around, we tried a completely new setup and it really seemed to make a difference with the handling of the car. We still lacked some forward drive, but I felt like I could put the car anywhere on the track.”

The team will close out the 2019 season with the IRA at the season-ending event Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at The Plymouth Dirt at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 28. The all-Sprint Car event will feature the IRA 410 Sprint Cars, Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars, Wisconsin Wingless Sprint Cars and IRA Lightning Sprint Cars.

Hot laps will begin at 5 p.m. with qualifying and racing to follow.

Walter, who owns two A-main victories in MSA 360 Sprint Car competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track this season, is eager to return to his hometown track, where he placed 14th in IRA A-main action on Saturday, Aug. 31.

“We are looking forward to Plymouth on the 28th,” Walter said. “We are going to fine tune the new setup and see what happens. It's exciting to know that we are improving every time we go to a track for the second time. This will be our second race this year with the 410 at Plymouth, so we are looking to improve in qualifying and our A-main finish from our last visit.”
