The Saturday portion of the 31st Annual US Open at New York International Raceway Park, home to Lancaster Speedway will pay homage to two individuals who are part of the strong foundation of the speedway’s heritage.
The Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series will compete in the 4th Annual Joe Reilly Crown Royal Classic 54, with an additional $3,000 in lap money and prizes for competitors. Reilly, a crew chief, built and maintained the Thompson Racing “54” cars that have graced Western New York speedway’s for decades, fielded by car owner Jim Thompson. Reilly’s wife, Tracy, raised the lap money and bonus awards for the competitors.
The 2nd Annual John Julicher Classic will also take place for the Race of Champions Super Stocks. Julicher of Williamsville, N.Y., is one of Lancaster’s greatest drivers of all times. Julicher cut his teeth and had great success in Lancaster’s Super Stock division.
An additional $1,750 will be distributed amongst the top-10. The winner will receive an additional $500 to win, with second receiving an additional $250 and third an additional $200. Fourth through tenth will receive an additional $100. The leader at halfway will receive $50 and there will be a hard luck bonus of $50. John Lyon, a good friend to the Julicher family and leader of the TDH Refrigeration Motorsports program, raised the funds along with TDH Refrigeration. Art Hill Excavatimg, one of Julicher’s long-time partners, Airport Collision, the Julicher family and Stadium Collision.
