Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Sept. 10, 2019) – Marshall Skinner battled a challenging night of incidents beyond his control as he competed in two classes of sprint cars at the Fall Nationals last Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway.

“We just didn’t have a good night,” he said. “We got spun out in both features. It was frustrating.”

Skinner rolled off in the 12th starting position in the 360 sprint car feature after finishing third in his heat race.

“I was able to move up to around seventh or eighth and wasn’t doing too bad,” he said. “It was a pretty solid field of cars. A lot of them weren’t slouches. But then a kid slid me. I let him have the top of the track while I stayed in the middle. Then he bicycled on the cushion and shot back down the track. I saw him coming and got on the binders real hard. He hit me in the right front and spun me out.

“There were about 10 laps to go and the race track wasn’t real forgiving so I decided it wasn’t worth restarting at the back and pulled in.”

Skinner competed earlier in the evening in the 305 sprint car class and he experienced a similar incident after starting 13th in the 21–car feature.

“We were actually running pretty good,” he said. “I was up to about seventh when a guy got into me and spun me out. I had to go to the back and came back to finish 12th. We had a good car. I’m just not real comfortable in it.”

Skinner is hoping to turn around what’s been a sub-par season for him so far this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., during the Ralph Henson Tribute with the ASCS Mid-South Region.

“I pulled the motor this week,” he said. “I may try to degree the cam a little different and see if that helps. We changed the cam last year. We’ve had some good runs with it, but when the track gets slick I really struggle. It’s kind of like driving with an on-and-off switch.

“This year has been a struggle, mainly because I have too many irons in the fire and I don’t have time to race the right way. I have little time to work on the car during the week and usually show up at the track by myself with no help. I’m pretty much just a one-man show. I’m hoping that I can make some changes this week that will give us some better results.”
