Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 9, 2019) – Kerry Madsen highlighted last weekend’s trio of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions races with a top-10 result.
The KI Crossbows backed Big Game Motorsports driver got off to a strong start with new crew chief Barry Jackson. Madsen qualified seventh quickest overall and second in his group on Friday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa. A run from third to win a heat race locked the team into the dash, but unfortunately Madsen drew the second-highest number to line up on the inside of the fourth row for the dash. He gained one position to finish sixth before capping the night with a ninth-place run in the main event.
“We made some changes for the A Main and went the wrong way, but it was great to have really great pace early,” he said. “It’s just a matter of getting the combination right. Realistically we weren’t going to just go out and dominate and be perfect every time we hit the track. The pace is there early. It’s just a matter of putting it all together.”
Madsen enjoyed another fast race car on Friday when he kicked off the first night of the two-day Tuscarora 50 event hosted by Port Royal Speedway by qualifying second quickest out of more than 50 drivers. A fourth-place finish in a heat race locked him into a dash and a third-place run in the dash lined him up on the outside of the third row for the A Main.
“We were running around 10th about halfway when I pulled off with a flat left rear tire,” he said.
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with Madsen qualifying 12th quickest overall and third in his group. He placed second in a heat race to garner the ninth starting position in the main event.
“On Saturday I felt like we had a great car, but we had a mechanical issue right away,” he said.
Madsen was unable to finish the race following the early problem.
“It was pretty seamless and we get along well,” Madsen said of his new pairing with Jackson. “We seem to be on the same page so there’s a lot of potential there. We got some good pace in the car early in the night. We have to keep working to find the pace later in the night when it counts.”
The team is scheduled to race this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., during the Jim Nace Memorial 37th annual National Open presented by Red Robin. It will mark Madsen’s first start at the track since August 2006.
