Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 2) – Logan Forler wasn’t sure of what to expect at Knoxville Raceway.
It’s the mecca of sprint car racing; the track that’s cut the teeth of some of the best drivers in the history of dirt racing. And it’s a ½-mile high-speed oval, although that played into Forler’s hands.
The 17-year-old from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., finished seventh in the season-opening 410 feature on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – his first top 10 of the season in a 410.
“I think I’m a lot better on the bigger tracks with the 410,” he said. “I like the high-speed race tracks.”
Forler started the night by qualifying 12th quickest out of the 29 drivers. Because of an eight-car invert, he started fifth in his eight-lap heat race, which didn’t get off to a good start.
“I kinda got flustered on the first lap of the heat race,” Forler said. “I missed the bottom and I never miss the bottom.”
Forler dropped to eighth place before he regained his composure. He then picked off two cars to finish sixth, which was the final transfer position.
Because he qualified 12th and transferred to the feature, Forler was part of the redraw to determine the first six rows of the main event. He pulled the No. 5 pill, earning him the fifth starting position for the 20-lap race.
Forler then battled for a top five most of the feature before settling for seventh place.
“I was really happy with it,” he said. “It raises your confidence quite a bit. If you can run with these guys here, you can run with them anywhere.
“Also, a big thanks goes to Garrett of Competition Suspension Inc. for all of his help this weekend.”
Forler returns to the track on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. It’s the only 50-lap race of the season on the ASCS National Tour.
He ranks 11th in ASCS National Tour points and is second in the Rookie of the Year battle.
