LASOSKI CLAIMS KNOXVILLE SEASON OPENER

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 2) – Add another one to the record.

Danny Lasoski, a.k.a. Mr. Knoxville, picked up his 94th career feature victory at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday. He started on the pole and led all 20 laps to claim the season opener, which was his fifth career season-opening win.

“You have to set goals and our goal is to get 100 wins,” said Lasoski, who is the winningest driver at Knoxville Raceway by 34 victories. “Knoxville is going to be really tough this year, but we’re going to go every night trying to win.”

In a brand new Eagle sprint car, Lasoski qualified fifth quickest of the 29 drivers in the 410 class. The eight-car invert placed him seventh in his eight-lap heat race, which advanced the top six to the feature.

Lasoski got a good start and worked his way up to second on the opening lap. He then chased down Mark Dobmeier, but was unable to make a pass for the victory.

The finish earned Lasoski a spot in the redraw, which took the top 12 drivers in qualifying who advanced through the heat races. Lasoski pulled the lucky No. 1 to start first in the feature.

“It was the winner of the race, making a draw like that,” he said.

Lasoski drove to the early lead and cruised on the bottom of the dry track, making sure he hit his marks. A couple of timely cautions kept him out of much lapped traffic and no one was able to make a move for the lead.

“Starting in front and having all the heavy hitters behind us, they were going to have to move around,” Lasoski said. “We just went to our game plan. I told the guys I wasn’t going to run the tires off unless I heard someone around us.”

The victory was his fourth straight win at a Saturday race – all coming in the month of April.

Lasoski is scheduled to race Tuesday with the World of Outlaws at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Okla., and return to Knoxville Raceway for Saturday’s event.
