Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (Sept. 4, 2019) – Trey Starks produced a trio of top-six results last weekend during the DeKalb/Asgrow 360 Nationals presented by Kuhlman Lake Service & Welding, Inc. and Tweeter Contracting hosted by Jackson Motorplex.
The Gobrecht Motorsports driver placed fourth on Friday, sixth on Saturday and fifth on Sunday in an event that showcased nearly 50 drivers.
“We’re happy with our results,” he said. “We wanted to win races, but to move forward each night and finish in the top five twice when there’s almost 50 drivers competing is a positive.”
The event began on Friday with Starks qualifying second quickest overall. He then advanced from sixth to third place in a heat race before gaining a position to finish fourth in the A Main.
“It was a great points night for us overall,” he said. “Qualifying that well and getting a strong start to the heat race set us up in a good position. We made progress in the feature as well. It was just a efficient night from start to finish.”
The team returned to the 4/10-mile oval on Saturday for the second preliminary night. Starks timed in 17th quickest during qualifying. He then maneuvered from third to second in a heat race and from 12th to sixth in the main event.
“We didn’t get timed in as well as we wanted, which was a hit in points,” he said. “We got through the heat and then had a good run in the feature. I think we got stronger as the race went and if we had a few more laps we could have gained even more positions.”
Starks ranked fifth in overall preliminary points – only one position out of locking into the dash. That gave him the pole of a heat race on a Sunday. His second-place finish lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the feature.
“Finishing second in the heat kept us out of the dash, which would have started us a little closer to the front for the feature,” he said. “We were pleased to move forward in the main event and make the progress we did. Track position is everything in racing so I think if we could have started in the first couple of rows we could have contended for the win. However, it’s tough to complain about finishing fifth in the 360 Nationals when there’s about 50 of the top drivers in the Midwest there.”
The fifth-place result was his seventh top five of the season and fifth at Jackson Motorplex. Starks finished tied for second in the championship standings.
The team heads east this weekend to compete on Thursday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., and on Friday and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions.
