Bacon Vies for BC39 Repeat after Top Five Silver Crown Showing

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (September 4, 2019) – Brady Bacon etched his name into the record books by winning last year’s inaugural rendition of the USAC National Midgets “BC39” in the first race ever atop The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This week, Bacon will try to become the first two-time winner of the event as he defends his crown aboard the FMR No. 76e on Wednesday and Thursday.

Bacon’s title defense in the event gets under way in Wednesday night’s first heat race, as the “Macho Man” grids the field inside the fourth row. Wednesday’s heat race finishes and points will set the stage for Thursday’s qualifiers and then feature events.

“This is a special race, it meant a lot to win this one last year and I hope it’s something that we’re able to do again this week,” Bacon explained.

Bacon goes into the event after another strong outing in USAC Silver Crown competition that netted a fifth-place finish at Illinois’ Quoin State Fairgrounds on Sunday. Friday’s USAC Midget and Sprint Car combo at Granite City’s Tri-City Speedway fell victim to rain.

Bacon opened Sunday’s tilt at Du Quoin by landing a front row starting position aboard the Klatt Enterprises No. 6 entry with a time of 30.797 seconds atop the mile clay oval that was second quickest.

After a stint of 23 laps in the lead position during the first half of the 100-lapper, Bacon finished out the night in fifth.

“We couldn’t quite go as good at the end as some of the others, then we got pinched out of where we needed to be a couple of times late in the race,” Bacon explains. “We got the Klatt Enterprises No. 6 into the owner points lead though, which was the primary goal going into the night.”

After pushing the Klatt team into the USAC Silver Crown owner points lead, Bacon now sets his sights on making it two-for-two in USAC Midget “BC39” competition among a field of nearly 90 competitors.
