Inside Line Promotions – WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2019) – Joe Trenca earned his career-best finish at Weedsport Speedway on Monday during a Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints show.
The Mucci Motorsports driver was credited with a fourth-place result, which was his eighth top five of the season and fifth top five in his last six races.
The event began with Trenca qualifying fourth quickest in his group. That put him on the pole of a heat race and a runner-up result garnered a spot into the feature redraw.
“In the heat race we were good,” he said. “Danny Varin got around us on the top, but he was able to run the fence like nobody else could. I heard him up there. I tried to run the top lane, but couldn’t quite run up there.”
Trenca landed the pole position for the A Main.
“The outside was the preferred lane,” he said. “We drag raced for the lead the first lap. We fell into second and we got into a rhythm. Then we had a restart and lost two positions. I got into a small incident with a lapped car and that put us into sixth. We had a restart with two laps to go and we were able to get to fifth. A guy didn’t go to the scales so we ended fourth.
“I need to get a little more comfortable in this car to be able to run the fence. I was running the top, but these guys were literally on the fence; almost like Tulare style. I felt like I was going to stick it in the fence. We were a little bit snug to run it up there as hard as we needed. We’ll take a top five. We were happy with that.”
Trenca rides the momentum of his fourth-place finish into a Patriot Sprint Tour doubleheader this Friday and Saturday at Land of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua, N.Y. He enters the weekend ranked second in the championship standings.
“With the cooler temperatures I think the track will be better come feature-time than in the middle of the summer when it gets dead slick,” he said. “They also are offering some good money. We haven’t had a big paying race at Canandaigua in a long time so that’s exciting.”
