Gregg Claws to Third
Saturday night at Marysville Raceway Park, Placerville CA’s Andy Gregg utilized a green-white-checkered restart to charge from sixth place to finish a season high third during round four of the 2011 Golden State King of the West Series.
As the 30-lap tout got underway, Gregg quickly grabbed the third spot aboard his Bret Ervin Racing/7 Industries/Eagle, as he battled the fourth running Tim Kaeding, and second running Willy Croft.
After a five lap green flag run, the field got bunched back together in double file formation, putting the Autism Awareness/College Cyclery/Wheel Vintiques backed entry on the bumper of early race leader Jonathon Allard.
When the race resumed Gregg and T.Kaeding continued to battle for third, as the slicked off racing surface made passing extremely tough. After Kaeding grabbed the third spot from Gregg on the 10th circuit, the Ervin Sales/King Racing Products/GUTS sprinter ran fourth for the next 10 laps as he held off Evan Suggs.
On the 20th circuit, contact with Suggs knocked the nose wing off the No.53 car and sent Gregg spinning, but the veteran driver was able to keep the car fired and continue on now in the sixth spot.
A caution on the 28th lap lined the field up with a two-lap shoot out to the finish. When the race got underway, Gregg moved up the track heading into turn one getting passed Brett Bjork for fifth, before driving around Evan Suggs in the third turn to grab the fourth spot heading to the white flag. Going down the backstretch Gregg was able to get around Jonathon Allard to grab third as the checkered flag flew.
“Man what a crazy finish,” said Gregg. “I wish I would of tried moving up a little bit earlier in the night, but I’m happy to go from sixth to third in the final two laps, and head to the Bradway next weekend.”
In preliminary action, Gregg timed in with the 11th fastest lap of the night, won the second heat race, and grabbed third in the dash, lining him up third in the feature event.
The Bret Ervin Racing/7 Industries team will be back in action for round five of KWS action at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA for the annual Dave Bradway, Jr Memorial race.
Prior to the event fans are encouraged to show up to the track at noon for the first 7 Industries Pit Party. The 7 Industries team along with the KWS show cars, and a few other drivers will be on hand in the pits showing off their cars, and giving a chance for fans to meet their favorite drivers before the event, hangout, and grab some autographs.
