(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 29, 2019 – Since switching their focus to 410 Sprint Car racing with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association over the past month of the 2019 season, Josh Walter and Torque Racing has been consistently hovering in and around the top 10 in A-main action, as was the case again in IRA action at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 24.
After qualifying 16th in the 27-car IRA field, Walter lined up sixth in the first IRA 10-lap heat race. On the opening lap, Walter powered around Jereme Schroeder to nail down the fifth spot in turn two. Walter held down the fifth position over the final nine laps to earn a transfer spot to the IRA A-main event.
Walter rolled off 15th for the 30-lap IRA A main and spent the first 10 laps engaged in a heated back-and-forth duel with Jereme Schroeder before passing Schroeder for good to retain the 15th spot on lap 10.
After a pair of red flag on lap 11 and lap 13 for incidents involving Matt Wiese, Todd Daun on lap 11, as well as Brinton Marvel and Ben Schmidt on lap 13. Marvel’s contact with the turn one wall produced a fuel leak onto the track surface, which resulted in a lengthy delay during which prompted IRA officials allowed for an open red with crews gaining access to their cars to make limited on-track adjustments.
Walter restarted 13th and passed Dave Uttech in turn three on lap 16 to advance to 12th. Ben Schmidt recovered from being involved in the lap 13 incident to pass Walter for 12th on lap 18.
Four laps later, eight-time IRA champion Bill Balog was involved in a hard flip on the frontstrech as he attempted to negotiate a lapped car while running second. After restarting 12th, Walter held the position in the closing laps before advancing to 11th when Schmidt dropped out with an apparent mechanical failure.
Walter held on in the closing laps to secure an 11th-place showing in a race won by Scotty Thiel.
After a two-week break, Walter will return to action with the IRA for the Scott Semmelmann Memorial Race on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis.
The team will then close out the 2019 season with the IRA at the season-ending event at The Plymouth Dirt at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
