Inside Line Promotions – HAMLIN, Pa. (Aug. 27, 2019) – Joey Amantea continued to gain experience behind the wheel of a Stage One Modified as he highlighted a night of double duty with a top 10 last Saturday at Hamlin Speedway, marking his third consecutive week in as many career starts with a top 10 in the division.

Rain once again put a damper on the weekend early, canceling plans to race Friday night at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa.

Amantea ventured to Hamlin Speedway on Saturday for double duty behind the wheel of his non-wing 600cc micro sprint and a Stage One Modified.

Amantea advanced from sixth to fourth place in the first of two heat races to start the micro sprint competition. Unfortunately, he got caught up in an early wreck in the second heat race that ended his night early. He was credited with an 18th-place finish in the feature.

“I found out early in heat one that the track was pretty much one lane and it was tough to pass,” he said. “Unfortunately, we got caught up in a wreck on Lap 1 in the second heat and the car was just totaled. Everything you could think of was broken or bent and it just was not a good night.”

Hoping to save a rough night, Amantea took part in Stage One Modified action. He lined up in the third spot to begin his heat race before dropping to seventh when the leader spun out in front of him. Amantea rallied back to finish fourth and he garnered the seventh starting position in the feature.

In A-Main action, Amantea struggled early in the race, but was able to recover for a sixth-place finish at the checkered flag. The top 10 was the Mt. Pocono, Pa., native’s 25th of the season.

“We salvaged what we could with the Stage One Modified, but overall it just wasn’t really our night,” he said. “This sport is as much about luck as it is skill and luck wasn’t with us at all. We’ll take sixth and move on to next week.”

Amantea will return to Linda’s Speedway on Friday with his non-wing 600cc micro sprint and then will head to Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, Pa., for two nights of 600cc racing as part of the Labor Day Shootout. On Saturday he will participate in winged action and Sunday Amantea will return to non-wing competition.

“We’ve had some bad luck and a lot of rain, but if they give us a couple of good tracks to race on I think we’ll rebound nicely,” he said. “We’ll come in confident and if we can put it in the show both nights, I’ll be happy.”
